Visa rules for foreign backpackers changed to aid bushfire recovery

Backpackers who work in bushfire-affected regions including land clearing and rebuilding fences or homes for three months, will be eligible to stay in Australia for a second year under amended visa rules.

Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham said the expansion of the criteria enabling working holidaymakers to extend their stay in Australia, would help protect jobs in regional areas.
