Seaside nostalgia feel for Lakeside Shopping Centre refurb

Tuesday 17, Sep 2019

Lakeside Shopping Centre sits on the top of The Entrance Road which leads down to the beautiful waterfront of The Entrance.  Recently, it was decided to re-style.

The designers of Kincumber styling company ‘The Beholder’ were engaged to take an authentic “coastal feel” approach, keeping the Shopping Centre in line with the seaside nostalgic feel of The Entrance area – a place where people would have visited for a holiday in their youth, with great memories of fishing, savouring fish and chips around the foreshore, feeding the pelicans, enjoying the cinema and eating ice-cream after a full day at the beach!

The re-styling vision was to retain that feeling of the community shopping village, whilst engaging graphically with the coast.  The designers chose a pastel gelato pallet of coral, aqua, sunshine yellow teamed back with a nautical navy.  They brought the motifs of pelicans, boats and waves to the exterior mural.  These motifs were repeated throughout with large Welcome Mats.

By candy striping the benches and bins, and hanging new plants, the outside was brought inside, and the seaside feel of the coast to the community – a gentle, subtle and engaging reminder of the coastal summer feel, all year round.
